Durante il Medioevo, soprattutto a partire dal XIII secolo, erano numerose le istituzioni e congregazioni dedite all’assistenza dei più poveri, malati e bisognosi. Realtà che sopravvivevano grazie alle cospicue donazioni delle ricche famiglie o di occasionali benefattori. Negli archivi di questi istituti pubblici si potevano trovare quaderni di contabilità, inventari, elenchi di contribuenti, testimonianze di processi, atti di compravendita. Tutto scrupolosamente trascritto e, nei casi più fortunati, conservato. È questa la storia di tanti archivi ed è anche la storia dell’Archivio del Pio Istituto Elemosiniere di Venzone, il cui inventario, frutto di una accurata e minuziosa ricerca e risistemazione, è oggi presentato il questa opera a cura di Roberta Micheli. Si tratta di un patrimonio documentario che va dal 1400 agli ultimi decenni del 1900, caso raro di documentazione cospicua e continua, utile non solo per studi linguistici, storici e culturali, ma come patrimonio di una comunità , testimonianza della vita e della storia di Venzone.

The Archives of the Pio Instituto Elemosiniere at Venzone

During the Middle Ages and, above all, from the XIII century onwards, many were the institutions and organizations dedicated to the assistance of the poor, needy and ill. Their existence was possible thanks to the generous donations made by the rich families and occasionally by other benefactors. Accounting books, inventories, lists of contributors, trial proceedings, and deeds of sale, all scrupulously transcribed and, in the most fortunate cases, well-preserved, could be found in the archives of these public institutions. This history, common to many archives, is also the history of Venzone's Pio Istituto Elimosiniere, whose inventory, accurately and thoroughly sought and re-arranged, is presented in this work by Roberta Micheli. This documentary patrimony, ranging from the XV century up to the last decades of the XX century, represents a rare case of conspicuous and continuous documentation, which is useful not only for linguistic, historical and cultural studies, but, being the patrimony of a community, also bears witness to the life and history of Venzone.
