Questa opera di Dina Forgiarini propone un interessante percorso nella pittura muraria trecentesca di Venzone attraverso i tanti affreschi in alcuni casi completi e ben conservati, in altri lacunosi o irrimediabilmente distrutti (soprattutto in seguito al sisma del ’76), ma di cui è stata conservata la documentazione fotografica. L’autrice procede nell’analisi dettagliata degli affreschi presenti nel Duomo, nella Cappella del Gonfalone, nella chiesa dei Santi Giacomo e Anna, ripercorrendo lo sviluppo e l’evoluzione stilistica della produzione artistica del XIV secolo, la cui comprensione è facilitata dall’utile e dettagliato catalogo delle opere posto che conclude questo volume. Un più attento esame è riservato all’affresco “Storia di Sant’Andrea”, raffigurante la vita e gli episodi legati alla figura del Santo (titolare del Duomo), che è messo a confronto con le altre “Storie di Sant’Andrea” presenti sul territorio friulano. Un lavoro minuzioso e puntuale, utile per comprendere e per riappropriarsi della storia e dei significati di un patrimonio importante quale la pittura del 1300 a Venzone.

The Stories of St. Andrew and XIV-century mural painting at Venzone by Dina Forgiarini This work by Dina Forgiarini offers an interesting excursion into Venzone's XIV-century mural painting through its numerous paintings, some of which are intact and well-preserved, while others have been damaged or irreparably destroyed (especially after the 1976 earthquake), but of which there are photographic documents. The author thoroughly analyses the paintings of the Duomo, the Gonfalone Chapel and the Church of Saints James and Anne, so as to retrace the development and stylistic evolution of XIV-century art, the understanding of which is made easier through the useful and accurate catalogue of works placed at the end of this volume. A more in-depth analysis is dedicated to the painting "Stories of St. Andrew", which portrays the life and events of the Saint (to whom the Duomo is dedicated). It is compared to the other "Stories of St. Andrew" present on the Friulian territory. This is a detailed and accurate work, which is useful to understand and re-appropriate the history and significance of an important patrimony as is that represented by Venzone's XIV-century painting.
